Eastern students conduct research in every major. Unlike at larger institutions, where faculty-mentored research is chiefly conducted by graduate students, Eastern students can start conducting professional research as early as their first year. Research projects can be team-based and part of a class or conducted as independent study. Students also have a host of presentation and publication opportunities to share their research and learn valuable professional/academic skills in the process. Faculty mentors in each academic department support student researchers, with overall coordination provided by the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity.
Eastern Connecticut State University began its summer session with three week-long summer research institutes, culminating in a final presentation on June 6 in the Student Center Theater. Students and faculty from the art, business, and biology departments collaborated on projects and showcased results to their peers.
The J. Eugene Smith Library's 2025 Library Research Awards honored four students for outstanding scholarship on May 16. Seniors Emma McCormack and Saoirse Ward received the awards, while first-year student Jackson Smith and senior Erika Jones received honorable mentions.
From examining the impacts of microaggressions to analyzing how videogames influence stress, more than 50 undergraduate psychology students gathered in the Student Center Betty Tipton Room (BTR) on May 5 to display their semester-long research projects at “Psychapalooza.”
